Interlaken trip - Part 3

After having our plans foiled by the wearher the weekend before we decided to give Interlaken and Jungfrau another chance. I kept checking the weather every day all week long and on Friday the forecast was still calling for perfectly sunny day and no chances of rain both Sat and Sun. We were definitely going!!

This time we decided to be adventurous and took the Swiss rail to go on our trip instead of driving. The weekend before we finally decided to get so called half-price cards, which are these discount cards that allow you to buy any transportation or entrance tickets (for trains, buses, ferries, museums etc) at half price, for 1 year. We figured that the 2nd trip to Interlaken and getting half priced tickets to the Jungfrau would already allow us to recoup the cost of the cards, so why not... From that point any trip we take by train or bus will be like getting free money. Pretty cool.

So we packed some light breakfast and lunches for the day and set out on our adventure. Here's our train pulling up and me having my coffee while on board.

It turned out to be a great idea to go by train. The time went by fast especially with the 2 quick train changeovers we had. Plus we had some amazing views on the way, as the train typically goes closer to the water than the road and cars...

We got to Interlaken around 11:30 and went to get our tickets for the next available ride up to the Jungfrau. To get to the top of the mountain you take a 2 hour trip by private rail. The views were amazing all along the way.

And this is what we did once we finally got to the top. Pretty amazing.

This is from the "Ice Palace", a series of tunnels carved out inside the ever frozen Aletsch Glacier. Pretty cool...

This was funny... they have the Ice Age nut obsessed critter in one of the ice blocks...

And here's the glacier and the Jungfraujoch building from the outside...

Up pn top they have a section called Snow Fun where you can 1) sit with a hot drink (or a cold one for that matter...) and watch the views a people, 2) rent a tube or a snowboard and take a few runs down the hill, 3) go ziplining! CJ was very tempted to try something, but in the end decided that the tube thing would be no fun without me and the snowboard slope was more like a bunny hill so not up to his level of boarding ability. So we just hung out there in the sun and watched people play.

Then we caught a train back down to the town and a return train to Geneva. It was a long day and I felt pretty wiped out on the ride back but it was so much fun. And we fainlly conquered the Jungfrau.

What a perfect day.
