Halfway today!!!

It is hard to believe but we're exactly halfway through the pregnancy today! Time is just flying by! I've enjoyed pretty much all of it, did not have to deal with major unpleasant symptoms (knock on wood, hope I don't jinx myself).

In celebreation of that I am going to post one of those pregnancy surveys that a lot of people are doing each week. Normally I don't have the patience or enough dedicaton to things like that.

So here goes.

How Far Along: 20 weeks

Size of baby: Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.) He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).
Total Weight Gain: 14 lbs as of last Sunday. I wasn't able to weigh myself today since we've been in London since last Thu. This is the most I've weighed in my entire life by about 6 lbs. Shock. Luckily most of it is in my belly area, and I am still wearing size 1 pants (albeit pregnancy ones) and S and XS shirts.

What I miss: Nothing really. This weekend kind of made me miss being able to drink alcohol. We were in England and I couldn't try any of the local beers. Oh well, another few months and I will party.

Sleep: It could be better. For a while now I have been waking up at 3-4 am, then tossing and turning for hours. I usually fall back asleep around 5-6 am and later get up exhausted. No fun. I used to think it was stress but now that I'm a lady of leisure (ha ha ha ...) it can't be that. Need to ask my doc about it again. Oh, I do miss sleeping on my stomach a bit, but I like sleeping on my left side (the most recommended position during pregnancy) so that part is easy.

Symptoms: Every now and then I will go through periods of this weird ache in my lower abdomen, on the sides, which my doc says is due to ligaments stretching to accommodate the growing baby. Nothing I can do about that I guess and it's really not that bad. I still get tired pretty easily. My old stamina is gone.

Cravings: This weekend I was dying for some Indian food... After all, we were in London... But we did not manage to squeeze that into the schedule. I'll have to visit our local Indian restaurant for some Samosas and Punjabi Biriyani chicken with rice. Other than that I would loooove some Portofino's chicken parmesan and a few Mexican dinners from Andele and from La Unica... Can't wait till December. I will eat Mexican every other day!

Aversions: Still chocolate!!! Oh gosh, I swear this kid HATES chocolate. I am so used to reaching for a piece of chocolate something, anything, after dinner, that I keep trying to eat some every now and then even though I know I will pay for it. It ALWAYS ends up in me getting this weird aftertaste in my mouth and just feeling slightly neuseated. So weird. I can handle some sweeter stuff now - baked goods like muffins are ok. But nothing with chocolate and overly sweet. Sad...

Movement: Yes! I am pretty sure now that I've been feeling movement for the past week or so. It started around last weekend. I've been reading that at first people feel "flutters" or "butterrflies" and maybe I had ben feeling that, maybe not. CJ kept making fun that I just had gas. But then one day I was sitting at home and I felt these distinct pokes inside that reminded me of the Pilsbury dough boy commercials. That's how it feels - fairly light, but distinct poking from the inside. They are sporadic and unpredictable, but I really wanted CJ to feel them. So couple of days ago when we were still in bed in the morning I made him put his hand on my stomach and just keep it there while we were talking and watching tv. And then sure enough the poking started and he was totally able to feel it a few times. So I think now he finally believes me it's the baby and NOT gas... So fun! The baby is typically active first thing in the morning, I wake up to it wiggling around and poking me. It usually pokes a little after I eat a big meal, and then it goes into food coma I think... haha... It does not like it when I squish it too much for example when I sit and bend forward for a while to look closely at something. It starts wiggling and poking me to get more room. I love love it! Such a little personality already.

Maternity Clothes: I am in love with my Old Navy Maternity jeans! I bought a couple of pairs online a few weeks ago. I was pretty much ready to wear them at 16 weeks, but they arrived when I was 17 weeks and I've been living in them since then. LOVE them. They are the ones with the low stretchy waist band. Sooo comfy and soft! I have those and a couple of shirts, nothing else really, since it is so hard for me to buy that stuff in the US and get it shipped over here. And I can't afford to shop for prego stuff here in Switzerland. So for tops I wear my normal t-shirts and sweaters. I am way past that weird stage where you just look bloated like you ate too much for dinner and your waist is gone. Around that stage I was wearing lost of the floaty, loose tops to hide my awkward shape. But for the past 3-4 weeks my belly has been hard to mistake for anything else, and I love showing it off so I really don't mind wearing my normal shirts that much. What better way to show of he belly than with the tight regular shirts!

Best Moments this week: CJ feeling the baby kicks. I think it made the fact all the more real for him.

What I'm looking forward to: WEDNESDAY when we find out what we're having!!! So excited. So far, BOY is winning in our poll with 15 out of 23 votes. GIRL has 8 votes. I still think it's a Boy, CJ thinks it's a Girl. Now he says that since recently quite a few of our friends have found out they are having boys, all the boy quota has been used up and it will be a girl. And you know that's a very scientific approach.
So here it is. I don't have a belly picture to show, because my blackberry, where the pics are, broke again. I will be posting about our weekend trip to London soon, so that will show the latest bump situation.
Hope you all enjoyed!
