Expat Expo

Last Sunday we went to the local Expat Expo, a kind of a expo with all kinds of English language expat stuff being promoted for the local expats from the US, UK, Canada, everywhere really, but the premise was, it was all in English. Yay!

I do not have any pictures from it, so you will have to make do with some stock images... :)))

We found out some really interesting resources:

An English Language Library, which I promptly joined as they were offering a year's membership at a 50% discount (based on the prices here, my membership cost pretty much what about 3 books would have cost me at a bookstore! Score!)

We talked to the ladies from the American International Women's Club. I've been meaning to join since we moved here but had not found time yet. All my other expar girlfriends are already members. My friend Lauren is even volunteering in their marketing department. They offer free French classes to members and have multiple interest groups, photography group, cooking group, book club, even baby / new Mom group. Fun! Need to join asap!

We talked to some ladies who teach baby safety classes and they gave us good leads for English language childbirth (at the Arcade de Sage-Femmes - a local organization of midwives) and parenting classes (at the local Red Cross).

We put in our name for the drawing of a free electric toothbrushes from a local English language dental clinic (hey, you never know what you might win...)

And CJ got some info about local ski / snowboard resorts.

We found out about this thing totally by accident, while on the train to the Cow Festival on Saturday. It was definitely worth checking out. Trust me, life of an expat in a place where everything is SOOOO expensive plus where you don't speak the language, is pretty tough.
