Oh my! Once again I have to say it - how the time flies! And how qickly things change with in a baby's life!
Our precious munchkin turned 3 months old on Sunday, the 19th and we can't believe that she's been with us over 90 days now. She has grown, changed and progressed so so much since the last update.
Stats:
Since we did not have a 3 month doc appointment, we do not have full stats on her size, however last week I went to Arcade Sages-femmes (Midwivery Center) where we took our prenatal class to have Katherine weighed and she now clocks in at 5.83 kilos (12.8 lbs, gain of a pound since last month). I am pretty sure she grew in length too because some of her shirt sleeves and pj pant legs are getting a bit short...
Also she has the most beautiful blue eyes. They are definitely staying blue. Yea! She looks so much like daddy, glad she has something from me!
Eating
We have a fabulous 3 hour schedule going with this little girl. We start the day between 7-7:30 and then it's food every 3 hours till 7 pm which is her last meal of the day.
We no longer give her a "dream feed" and she is not asking for it. It kind of happened by accident. When we went to Venice a few weeks ago, I forgot to set my alarm to 10:30 to feed her (yes I went to bed right along with her before 9pm... I am that lame, or tired to be exact) and she did not wake up till 4am asking for food so I figured she did not really need it since 4 am was her normal middle of the night wake up time anyway. So the next 3 days we were there I did not feed her and she still slept till 4 am.
And then when we came back from Venice she stopped asking for food at 4 am too!!! Which means that she's now sleeping through the night!! Yea! and that's why I am not moving her to a 4 hour feeding schedule. She dropped 2 feedings on her own in a matter of a week so I want to make sure she gets all the calories she needs during the day.
Sleeping
Yes! Katherine is now sleeping from right after her 7 pm feeding to 7-7:30 the next morning!! Amazing! It seriously happened just overnight, the day we came back from Venice. She just turned 11 weeks and almost overnight dropped 2 feedings. I was so scared at first that she wouldn't be getting enough calories and would wither away, so I was trying to feed her more. But she takes what she wants and still - 2 weeks later - sleeps through the night! So cool!
We just came back from a trip to the south of France this past weekend, where she also slept all nights at the hotel.
Now watch - the moment I post this, she will go back to waking up.... hopefully not. I hope I don't jinx it.
I still get up in the middle of the night to pump milk to give her the next day but I am totally fine with that, since that's only a few minutes, and she gets good mommy milk.
As far as naps - also after the Venice trip, she started taking more regular naps IN HER CRIB. I am loving this! Still not a great napper but this is progress. Whatever happened to her in Italy was a fantastic change. She will eat, play for a while and then starts rubbing her eyes and yawning. But as opposed to before where she wanted to be carried around and cuddled all the time, now she wants me to put her down, cover her with a blanket and shoosh to her for a couple of minutes and she is out like a light! Amazing! She'll take half hour naps that way. If I want her to sleep longer, I still need to take her for a long walk around town. I am hoping that longer naps are the next step in her development. Still it is amazing to finally get a completely uninterrupted 30 minutes to myself out of every 3 hour increment of the day. I am loving it!
Also, her "colic" is completely gone. She farts like a champion and when we spot her doing it she just laughs.
Activities
She is absolutely obsessed with her crib mobile. It has 4 toys on it and her favorite is a lion head, I think because it looks like a face. She LOVES faces. After eating when I carry her around and talk to her, we look in the mirror in the bathroom and visit with her friend "baby in the mirror" and the mommy in the mirror and she gives the biggest smiles. She also loves looking at photos and faces on the tv. Yes I let her look at the tv screen every now and then. It is not going to kill her... Anyways, she will follow the lion with her eyes around and around on end and laugh and talk to herself while doing so.
Her second fave is the playmat. Still not a fan of tummy time and I suck at enforcing it. I seriously need to get better at it or she will never roll. Her neck is pretty strong though so I am not super concerned.
Oh she still gets hiccups when she gets too excited - usually when I'm giving her all my attention, talking to her and making her laugh. It's a surefire way to give her a hiccupy fit. I am almost too scared sometimes to respond to her goading into play...
Milestones
Around the time of our Venice trip she went through a complete transformation - at least it seemed that way. She was no longer the cranky, unpredictable, screaming and whining newborn. She started smiling and talking all the time, she gives clear signals as to what she wants. She really does not whine much. She only cries when something is bothering her - a burp, fart, tiredness etc. And once it is fixed she is happy again.
Every morning when I come into her room to wake, change and feed her, she wakes up super happy, talks and laughs to me, gives me the biggest happy smiles and is just pure joy to have around. She knows that playtime comes after eating so when she's done, she'll start teasing us with little gurgles, haaahhhs and laughs till we respond and then starts laughing and talking even more.
She now laughs these super loud and energetic laughs all the time and talks to me a lot. We can have a long "haaaaah, haaaah" conversation back anf forth any time of the day now.
She definitely recognizes me and if CJ is taking her of her and I walk into the room she will instantly pin me with her eyes and follow me around. Feels nice to be needed. Of course she loves her Daddy too and will give him the most precious smiles when she sees him.
Also bath time is becoming a more pleasant experience for everyone - I try super hard to distract her so she does not start screaming her head of after she's taken out of the water and getting dressed.
She is showing the first signs of purposeful grabbing. She doesn't like being stuck in the car seat facing backwards all alone (she's really sociable and loves attention) so when I'm driving with her I have to talk to her loudly and stick my arm back there and distract her. I started waving my hand in front of her and saying "Grab mommy's hand Katherine" and a few times she reached out and grabbed my fingers. And it was NOT an accident nor did I grab her hand myself. She reached and grabbed my hand. So sweet.
So overall I am just completely amazed how huge of a change she has experienced in just 1 month. She is such a wonderful, happy little girl. I love her so much and love having her around. I feel sad when CJ has to travel for work and I keep sending him emails with her cute pictures or updates on what she's done any given day, and he is not here to see that. He also loves her new personality and has even purposely gone late for work a few times just so he could participate in the morning wake up ritual and see her precious smiles.
Here are her official 3 month bear pictures.
The bear was trying to push her out of the way at first...
But then they decied to be buddies and hold hands...
What a blessing it is to have such a wonderful happy baby around!!!
