Katherine is 11 months old!

My goodness!! How is this possible!! We have an almost one year old on our hands! Little Katherine turned 11 months on January 19th and we are still somewhat in shock that we have had her for almost a year now.

She continues to amaze us every day with all her new tricks and achievements and we keep saying all the time that we can't believe how lucky we are that she is our daughter.

Stats:
Nothing this month. She goes in for her 12 month well check next month so I will finally now how big she is.

Eating:
We are on a similar schedule as last month. She will wake up between 5-6:30 and chit chat to herself. So I just go in and give her a bottle of milk and she goes back to sleep till 8am. On some days though she sleeps all the way till 7 am and those days even though I still give her milk, she will stay awake in her crib and talk to herself and play with her bunny lovie until I come back around 8 to officially wake her and get her ready for the day. She then eats a breakfast of grains with fruit and yogurt. Then at 12 noon she eats lunch of meat and veggie, then 4-4:30 is dinner of meat and veggie (I often follow those with some fruit for dessert). Then at 7pm she gets her evening milk and goes straight to sleep.

As for what she eats, ever since we started the moving process I have not been able to cook, so she has been on store bough food and I think she actually likes it better than what I was making for her. Not sure if it is the consistency, flavors or what. But she quite happily now eats the chunky stage 3 meals and all kinds of mixes. I might go back to making some of her food once we get settled, but likely she will transition to more people food soon so we will not need that. She likes being fed, does not try to take the spoon from me or anything. She sometimes wants to explore and play with the food so I will put some on her tray and she splatters it around (one time she even styled her hair with yogurt... haha... that was something). She loves baby pasta with meat sauce, eats cottage cheese and cheese sticks cut up into pieces. We switched from puffs to Cheerios and she is loving them. She is also now consistently drinking water from her straw cup and I even stopped giving her milk in a bottle during the day. She now drinks milk out of her straw cup too. Bottles only for morning and night now. I give her the food pouches every now and then but she likes to play with then more than eat and she will shoot a fountain of food out of the spout all over me and herself just for fun, so I don't do those a whole lot. Maybe later. But she got the technique pat down, knows how to suck food out of those so.... Maybe some day.

Sleeping:
Pretty much the same as before. We are still on 2 1-hour-long naps per day. First one at 10:30, second at 3pm. And she still sleeps 12 hours at night. The best thing about her is that she puts herself to sleep all completely by herself! Though towards the end of the month she started fighting me with both her nap times, trying to stay awake longer and longer. I wonder if that means that she is trying to drop down to just one nap per day...

Milestones and Randoms:
Katherine started consistently saying Mama like a day before she turned 10 months old but I already had the previous month's post all ready to go and we were moving so I did not change anything there. She continues to say Mama, Dada (and I think she is slowly starting to associate those with the correct person). She also says Nana, lala, baba, Bah (which maybe means ball....), Daah (maybe dog? she loves dogs) she loves saying Yeyeye and a combination of all of her sounds. She is really chatty.

She claps, waves hi and bye, understands "shake shake" and "pat pat".

She also now has 8 teeth, 4 on top and 4 on the bottom. We are still slooooowly working on brushing. We asked our dentist for tips and they said to keep doing what we are doing and when she turns 2 to bring her for her first visit. I noticed that lately the rate of razzie blowing and the amount of drool has picked up so I think there might be more teeth coming soon.

Her gross motor skills are super impressive these days. She is still army crawling with belly on the ground but she will often stop and come to all fours with belly off the ground. She is pulling up on literally everything, and we are of course her favorite mountains to climb on. She loves crawling into our laps. She will get onto her knees next to her low activity table an play with all the buttons and moving parts. Then she goes over to the higher table and stands up next to it and plays. Se loves to stand. We can also walk her around the room holding her hands. I don't think she is far from walking.

She can't sit still in one spot for long. We joined a gym after moving back where they have child care for the time the parents work out and the ladies there, first of all LOVE her, because she never fusses, is always in a good mood and plays like a champion, but second of all, they have told me over and over again, that if she could walk she would be running! She is so fast and so active.

Oh yeah, so the gym day care is one way Katherine is getting used to other babies and to being cared for by people other than me. She has absolutely no signs of separation anxiety and gives the ladies there the biggest smiles when we come over. And as I am writing this, we have been going there for just a week.

We also joined 2 classes at the local Gymboree, Music and Play&Learn. She is LOOOOOVING playing all the instruments, climbing all over the obstacles and rolling around with other babies. She really is well adjusted and super brave and independent. Such a good girl! I can't wait till she is a bit older to start going to the Discovery Place Kids and after her schedule adjusts a bit, to the local library to story hour. Right now it falls right at the same as her morning nap and I do NOT want to mess with that....

I am hoping she can make some new baby friends here quick. I miss my Mommy group from Geneva. I joined a network of local moms called Lake Norman Mommies and I am trying to get a playgroup started for kids her age. Hopefully it will work out.

Other than that, she is mostly in 12 month clothing size, I still hold on to some smaller things just because I love them. She loves playing with her two activity tables and any toys that have buttons and make a noise. I got her these super cool toy car keys which beep, honk and ring a house bell and she loves them. She also got my old phone after I switched to the iPhone and now she makes her own phone calls whenever we drive somewhere.
She finally has her big girl car seat (Graco Smart Seat) and she is much happier in the car. She waaaay outgrew her baby seat.

Oh, she is a total wild jungle baby and does not know how to wear shoes! She scrunches her toes under when I try to put shoes on her and it is just impossible to get anything on! No idea what we will do when she starts walking and continues with that. And she still rips her socks off her feet all the time. Barefoot and sockless is best I guess.

Oh, one final thing, Katherine totally gets and uses the sign language sign for Milk. I have been showing it to her since she was 8 months I guess but I never was quite sure she got it or that she wanted to use it. Well a little bit ago I was reading her one of her books which has a page devoted to Baby drinking Milk, and she started signing milk with both her hands!! Amazing!! I told CJ to read it t her too and see if she would do it and sure enough she did!!! Now I wish I would have had more confidence in myself to teach her more but oh well. Most of the time I know what she wants from me so it's not a huge deal that we don't use other signs. But I still decided to teach her All done. We'll see how that goes over the next month.

I could go on and on about her. She amazes me every day with all the new things she does. It is just crazy to think that she was this tiny lump that just lay there and looked around and that was all, just a few months ago. Now she is all big and excited to explore the world. Such a fun time with her.

Here are her official 11 month photos.... I decided to include all those I took because they are a great example of how she is these days. She won't sit still for a second! It's impossible to take a good picture of her these days...
