Katherine is 10 months old!

Katherine turned 10 months old on December 19th. I am trying to be better about keeping track of her antics and posting updates. This time we do not have any stats for you as we were traveling around the time of of her birthday.

She is now wearing all 12 month size clothing and completely fitting in it (Carter's brand has always fit her best, I feel like they are most true to size) so that gives you an idea of how big she is. When we get back to the US, I will probably have to switch to getting her 18 month size clothes so she does not grow out of everything after like 2 wears...

Eating
She is still on a mostly 4 hour schedule during the day, eating around 8, 11:30, 4 and 7. But over the last month she has started waking up a lot earlier than normal. Like around 5am. That was NOT ok with me! I read somewhere that around this age, babies's habits might change especially is they are reaching various developmental milestones, and we are sure seeing that happen with her. So I started giving her her milk bottle when she wakes up at 5 and then I put her back to bed and she goes back to sleep till aorund 7:30-8. Then she gets her breakfast of oatmeal with fruit, then around noon a lunch of meat and veggies followed by milk, afternoon it's either yogurt with fruit or meat with veggies and some fruit dessert plus milk and then in the evening before bed she gets her milk bottle. Typically she does not want to drink much milk after her day time meals. I guess she is weaning herself to being a big girl.

She is still doing great with solids. She pretty much eats everything I give her. She prefers fruit, especially bananas. When we go out to eat with her, I give her pieces of bread, pizza crust with a bit of cheese, croissants and such. For the most part she likes people food. She especially loves macaroni & cheese. I can feed it to her directly off a fork and she chows it down like a maniac.

She will occasionally feed herself if something looks good but she is not yet really into self feeding. I have given her those baby food pouches a few times and she did pretty good with eating out of them. She mastered drinking water out of a straw cup this month and since the pouches work a similar way, I think that's what helped her figure out the eating part. But normally she just opens her mouth and wants to be spoon fed which is totally fine with me. I honestly don't see what the rush is with people trying to get their babies to feed themselves at a super young age. They are tiny and need our help for such a short time! Might as well enjoy it. She will feed herself for decades. Right now I like feeding her.

Sleeping
So as I mentioned, she is now waking up around 5am but if I feed her, she typically goes back to sleep until about 7:30-8. Other than that, she still wants to go down for the night between 6:30-7pm. I've tried pushing her bedtime to be a bit later, as late as 8pm, but she was still waking at 5am so I stopped torturing her. I put her down when she seems to naturally be ready for it and that is it.

She still takes 2 hour long naps during the day, at 10am and then at 2-2:30.

This is a do-able schedule for me so as long as I am able to fall back asleep after feeding her at 5, I can live with it.

Milestones and Randoms
First of all: She has SEVEN teeth!! Four on the top and 3 on the bottom. I can see the eight one (the right side bottom one) right under the skin so it will most likely make an appearance soon. Talk about a chompy baby! We really have to start enforcing tooth brushing soon. Right now it's more play than real brushing. But with so many teeth out already we need to start working on those good brushing habits.

For most of the month Katherine has been literally RUNNING while army crawling. That girl is sooo fast it is crazy. She is especially fast when she is trying to get to something she knows is a no-no, like the fireplace of a stray cable hanging off an outlet. Oh man, she does this hilarious huffing puffing sound when she's rushing to get to something dangerous. Needless to say we have all areas baby proofed, outlets plugged and any cables that have to be there securely taped to the floor.

She is still not crawling with her belly off the floor and I feel like this is exactly what it was wth her rolling earlier. She is so good at army crawling and gets to everything she wants sooo fast that she has no motivation to experiment with new stuff. Plus we have hardwood floors which are really slippery for her little knees and feet so it is tougher to break into a crawl.

But she is also constantly getting on her knees and elbows and rocking back and forth while in that position which looks like a perfect launch to a crawl so I know it is not far away.

But now she is also pulling up onto her knees and crawling into my lap all the time. She was also getting on her knees in her crib - that is very dangerous! So even though we only had like 2 nights left at the apartment before she turned 10 months, we actually had to drop the crib to the lowest level. And sure enough, the morning after we did it, I found her STANDING in the crib holding onto the top bar. Thank goodness we lowered the bed or she would have tumbled out and hurt herself...

Oh, this girl is all about standing now!! She will crawl over to you, climb into your lap and whine and whine until you stand her up (she has started to stand up by herself too if you hold her hands). She loves standing next to the ottoman or the couch and playing with our phones or tv remotes. She can see so much more from that point.

One sweet thing she also does is she will crawl over, climb in your lap and then she just wants to sit there and play with a toy. Just sit in your lap and play. So sweet...

During the month she has learned how to clap clap and now does it all the time especially when she sees me making excited faces at her and saying "yayyy yayyy" or "good baby!"

She is still pointing to things she wants and waved 'hi' and 'bye', but she's been doing that last month as well.

She continues to be in love with animals. I downloaded several iPad apps with animal sounds and she will sit for a looong time listening to the different animals talking. She especially loves the duck and dog.

Also, she completely stopped saying 'mama' this month!! I am sooooo disappointed!! She loves saying 'dadada', 'yayaya', 'bababa', 'lalala' but no 'mama'. So sad! Actually the best way to get her to say 'dada' is to tell her 'Hey Katherine, can you say mama?' To which she always replies 'dadadadada!!!'  She better start saying 'mama' again soon or I will leave her with Dada and go away!

She is changing so fast and learing new things all the time. We turned out Swiss dining room into her playroom and she has several different toy stations there. She has this toy with pop up animals (you twist or push a button and the animal head pops up) and she has learned to close the lids over each animal so quickly! That's real skills man! She loves her bucket of blocks (dumping them out, rearranging them and examining them closely). CJ was in Turkey for a week this month and seriously when he came back he said she was like a totally different kid! She changed and developed so fast!

I am really excited to be back in the US soon so that I can start taking her to music and activity classes at the Gymboree and to Discovery Place Kids. I took her to all those when we were in the US this fall and she had an absolute blast. She is super sociable, loves being around other babies and is typically not scared of anyone. I think she has only cried around strangers a handful of times.

So amazing to think that in just 2 months she will be a year old! Where has this time gone....

Happy 10 month birthday munchkin! We adore you and cannot imagine our lives without you!

And finally her official 10 month photos with her bear. Only this for ow as we are already on the move and i do not have the time to sift through all her photos. But i will post them in due time. I promise!

She is getting so big. I can't believe she's already climbing up on things, wanting to be standing. Where is the time going?! Hope y'all have a safe flight back and we'll see you soon!
