My balcony

This is my balcony at the apartment in Geneva. It is so bland and boring... I rarely come out there anymore now that Katherine is here. All the street noise, police cars going by and thudding trams scare her. But I would like to make it a more inviting space. Maybe if I had some plants there it would make it feel more like a little garden? I need ideas. What should I do with it? It is pretty large, spans the width of 2 rooms. I like the scrolly part of the railing. It gets sun in the mornings.
