BabyCOOK

We are getting close to starting solid foods with Katherine and I suddenly started feeling the urge to try making her baby food myself. Never thought I would be one of those moms, but now that I do not work, I will have the time (or so I think...) to try my hand at some crafty projects and cook her food.

I debated whether I should get a food processor for this project or a true baby food making appliance. In the end I went for the Beaba BabyCOOK, which is really big over here. It is a French appliance and is pretty much the only thing for baby food making on the local market. None of the typical American variety and choices here... We have a food processor back at home and I did not really feel like buying another one. Plus the BabyCOOK was on sale at a baby store so I went for it.

Without much ado, here is my newest toy!

Super excited about it. I think it will be a lot of fun making her fruits and veggies in this thing. It is a combination steamer and grinder. The part on the left is a water reservoir. You add water to it according to the recipe and the type of food cooked. The water is heated and turned into steam and it steams the food which is on the right side in a steamer basket. Then you dump the contents of the basket into the same plastic compartment and grind it as fine as needed.

We are not planning to start giving her solids till August when we return from our trip home, but I wanted to try out this sucker to make sure nothing was wrong with it. So the other day I made a batch of pureed carrots.
Here is what I got from cooking 3 rather smallish carrots.
And the conclusion:
1. I like the BabyCOOK a lot! It is really easy to use and I think it will be fun to cook Katherines meals.
2. Despite the initial investment in this device, I think in the long run we will save money given how super expensive everything is in Switzerland, especially anything related to babies...
3. I would make an EXCELLENT baby! I devoured the carrot puree in a matter of minutes! It was yummy! Ha!!
