A little summary for the next few weeks.
Our furniture shipped on March 23rd. According to the relo company it takes 6-8 weeks to get there, which puts it there about May 23rd. In the grand scheme of things that's not too too bad since we won't be able to claim it till about then anyway. After everything was packed I felt terrible because we only filled the container half way and I felt like I was forgetting something important. I am sure as soon as we're in the new place I will realize that I need my X and Y and that without Z my life is not complete and I will start crying... Ha!
Air freight shipment is tentatively scheduled for Thursday the 21st or Friday the 22nd. It will contain clothing and any last minute SMALL household items. The container is a box about half the size of our kitchen island and we can pack up to 500lbs. We are not allowed to put liquids in it (I think...) but I may try to smuggle all of our extra food we could not put on the ship container (the packers told us the container temps will get over 100F and food would spoil).
After that is done, we will celebrate our anniversary on the 24th and on the 25th we get on the plane and fly out to Geneva.
We will work there about 2.5 weeks (this week, the week of the 2nd and the week of the 9th) and then we'll fly back to the US - directly to ATL - to get our Swiss visas and work permits. Oh, we have to stay at a hotel during that time even though our apt lease starts on April 1. As non-residents we can't claim our stuff.
According to our Relo people they will be ready in mid May but since it's a government thing there is no exact date or assurances.
And after we get the papers it's back to GVA for good. Sad... :(
But at least at that point we will be able to claim our belongings and get settled in the apartment.
