Katherine is 5 months old!

Hip hip hooray for another fun month with our little girl! Katherine turned 5 months old on July 19th, the first full day she spent in the US. I am very late is posting this update but that's because we just came back from our home trip where I gad no internet access for two weeks.

Stats:
Incomplete this month since there is no 5 month doctor check up. But we went to see her pedi a few days before the trip just to ask some questions and she weighed in at 7.19 kilos which is 15.8 lbs. She is sooo big! She has surpassed double her birth weight and is doing so well!!

Eating:
Still eating every 3 hours, though she's starting to take at least 1 long nap a day now (up to 2 hours long) which typically results in one feeding falling 4 hours after the previous one. Still only having milk, no solids till we come back home from the US trip. Clearly she is not starving... haha... I am checking her tongue thrust reflex every couple of days with a baby spoon and it seems to be going away. She is also showing some interest in my food when I eat in front of her. She tries to reach out and grab my cup or plate when she's on my lap but that's more curiosity than appetite. Oh I let her lick a little piece of mango when I was having fruit salad the other day and she seemed to like it. She also seemed really interested in an apple... I am getting really excited about giving her veggies and fruit soon!

Sleeping:
Still sleeping all night like a champ! What a good girl! And she seems to be doing a little better about napping. She now typically takes 1 longer nap a day. Usually it's the first nap of the day, about 2 hours after the first feeding. But then other days she'll only sleep half hour and the long nap falls in the afternoon or does not happen at all. CJ describes it as russian roulette... never quite know when she's going to sleep longer. Oh well. We just go with the flow. Out of the two sleeps - night time vs naps, I will hands down take good predictable night sleep.
Here she is zonked out from playing...

Activities:
Boy this baby is such a funny girl! She is a chatterbox! She talks to her toys, talks to me, talks to her daddy, she'll chat away all day! She's so good at grabbing her toys now! When I hand her something she reaches with both hands and grabs it right up. And then she packs everything in her mouth! Haha... All her toys are constantly soggy from drool. And when she can't get her hands on a toy... she's chew on her hands! Too funny. We recently put up one of those doorway jumpers for her to bounce in and oh my gosh, did she love it! The first time she sat in it she just kept squealing in delight! I just love all her sounds! We are planning to get her some new toys and an activity center when we're home in the US so I'm sure I'll have some fun updates on that. Oh, I tried playing her Baby Einstein Take Along tunes toy for her again and this time she loves it. The music and the lights on it fascinate her. When I introduced it about a month ago she did not really like it, I think it was startling her. But now she loves to mess with it and listen to the music.

Randoms:
She is still not rolling over either way. She can easily toss her legs over to her side and start pushing off as if trying to get on her tummy but that's about it. And from belly to back, it only happened a handful of times and more by accident than anything else so I am not counting that as success. Most of the time when she's on her tummy she gets frustrated and starts screaming after a while. Oh well, I giess it's not her time yet.
She JUST started noticing her feet. She seemed really interested in them over the last week or so. She's not grabbing them yet but when she's sitting she seems really interested in those tiny wiggly things inside her little socks. We'll see what happens.
She's super sociable! She'll look at you intently and when she gets your attention she looks away in a flirty way, then looks back and starts chatting. Even our doctor for surprised how interactive and chatty she was. She put on a good show for her doc... haha...

I have a feeling her first word will be  "Mama" but in a whiney complainey context... She now say "mymmm mymmm mmmymmm..." everytime she is unsatisfied with something. It is hilarious. It sounds like mamamama come fix it...
And then when she's falling asleep she'll whine and say "waaa waaa waaa... waa waa waa". It's not really crying just her putting on a fake little whiney show... I try so hard not to laugh when I hear that... it's hilarious!
She also has a creaky door voice she uses when she's content and chewing on toys. I would love to record all those sounds so we have a record of it but she gets really distracted when I whip out the camera and will not perform for me then...

She's a super fun baby to have around and we love to watch her develop and grow. I can't wait for her to reach her next milestones (like rolling) and also  can't wait to try some solids with her soon.

Here is her official 5 month photo - a little dark as we shot it literally seconds before leaving for the airport.
The first one is funny... She looks like she's punching the bear...
Ok... I guess we can be friends... Haha...
